Flash on the iPhone in the works!

iPhone Flex/Flash

The following quote is from Adobe's CEO Shantanu Narayan, regarding Flash on the iPhone.

"It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating... The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver."

Apple has often exercised their right to disallow software on their devices, and have justifiable reasons not including Flash on the iPhone. Many express concern that the iPhone doesn't have enough processor speed, or a worthy graphics engine. Many are concerned Adobe Flash will kill their iPhone battery, which already fails to meet an 8 hour work day with heavy use.

Steve Jobs considered Flash Lite as too limited in functionality, while the standard Flash player would tax the limited resources on mobile platforms. At Exam Professor have tried running our Flex-based student interface on Flash Lite, and we'd have to agree with Steve Jobs.

There is no set date when Flash will be available for the iPhone, as it is up to Apple to determine, but the Flash/Flex development community is eagerly awaiting the news.
